Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On 22 April 2018 I shall be running the London Marathon for CLIC Sargent. That's 26miles, 42km or 55,000 steps.
Why am I doing this? Because I want to support parents of children who have been diagnosed with cancer. CLIC Sargent offers a lifeline to those who are having to endure every parent's worst nightmare. I am doing this for my friends, Richard and Sara whose son Georg was diagnosed with Leukaemia in 2016. At the age of 5, Georg spent almost a year living in Manchester Royal Children's hospital. I have known Richard and Sara since high school - decent people who have had their lives turned upside-down by this terrible disease. I simply haven't done enough to help them. This is why am running for this worthy charity who were a god-send to this family.
I have spent the last 9 months just preparing for my training. At least 3 times a week; countless hours on the treadmill and then transitioning to the road over the summer. It has been a real challenge and has taken a serious amount of commitment - much more than I had envisaged. So far this year I have run 525km. At the start of this year, I could barely run 5k. Two weeks ago I managed half marathon distance.
Real training starts in January and I am ready.
This is where the real work starts.
I am confident I can do this.
I am aiming to raise £2,500 for CLIC Sargent. Please donate whatever you can - every little bit helps go towards supporting families who really need it.
Thank you for your support.
David
January update - thanks to the generosity and support of family and friends, I hit my initial fundraising target of £2,500 by Christmas. I have now increased my target to £4,000 so that CLIC Sargent can do so much more. Please help by donating what you can to help this amazing charity.
March update - massive thanks to all of you who have donated. Having now passed my revised target of £4,000, I am increasing my target again to £6,000. Your support has been so motivating, particularly on those dark, cold evenings!
