Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Almost a year ago a neighbour and customer came in to the pub to ask me to sell raffle tickets for a charity fundraising event in memory of her son, Alex. Alex had died in September 2015 aged just 29 years of cancer linked to Crohn's disease which he had had since he was 10 years old.
Alex had worked for the charity whose headquarters is in St. Albans and was a terrific sportsperson, loving all sports but in particular cricket, golf and football.
Until this time, I hadn't heard of Crohn's or Ulcerative Colitis but since then it has become apparent to me just how many people this nasty disease affects.
Crohn's is a debilitating disease affecting anywhere from the mouth through to the bowel. It is also a chronic condition, which means that it is ongoing and life-long, although the sufferer may have periods of good health (remission), as well as times when symptoms are more active (relapses or flare-ups).
There is no cure for Crohn's at the moment, but drug treatment and sometimes surgery can do a lot to give long periods of relief from symptoms.
The idea is to try and raise £10,000 for the charity and so far I am well on the way with over £3,800. Just 26.2 miles (and A LOT of pain) to go!
I had forgotten just how much training needs to go into doing this and the extra 11 years since my last marathon hasn't helped matters, so please be as generous as you can afford to help me reach my target and help this wonderful charity to discover a cure for this horrible disease.
