Story
On 23rd April 2023 I will be running 26.2 miles around London to raise money for Daisy's Dream.
Why Daisy's Dream and why a Marathon in 2023.
2023 will be 30 years since I lost my Mum to cancer. When she died I was a similar age to Isobel, my 15 year old eldest daughter. I was fortunate to have amazing support from my family at the time and this has continued through the years. Now that I am married I have Helen to talk to and a fantastic group of friends in my life. Not everyone is this fortunate - and I want to try and ensure others get support and help.
The last few years have highlighted once again the value of talking and opening up about how you are feeling. Daisy's Dream provide invaluable support to 700 children and young people through their bereavement. Whether they are facing the death of someone they love or have already experienced their loss, their professionally qualified Family Workers are on hand to offer families the support and guidance they need; with all support free of charge. They are a relatively small charity so every penny raised will make a real difference and enable them to support families when they need it most.
2023 will also be 10 years since I last ran the Marathon for Daisy's Dream and 20 years since I climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in support of them. Climbing Kilimanjaro saw me and my brother achieve an ambition on behalf of our Mum that she was unfortunately unable to complete.
I appreciate that lives are increasingly expensive so I plan to ensure I earn every penny of sponsorship. On 23rd April I will be taking on the marathon - but the mission starts now, 6 months ahead of this.
* I will be running over 400 miles in training. That's over 3,600 mins putting myself through my paces.
* I will average over 15,000 per day
* I will be losing 10kg (over 10% of my total) of my bodyweight to get ready.
* I will be exercising 5 times a week (gym, bike as well as running) - every week. The evidence will be on Strava!
This will be my 3rd London Marathon (2002 and 2013) - the previous 2 attempts have seen me finish in just over 5 hours. My aim is to finish in under 5 hours. Under 4:45 I will be delighted and under 4:30 over the moon. Your support will spur me on with training and on the day.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, thank you in advance for every single sponsorship and message and thank you for anyone who will be there on the streets of London to cheer me on.
