Story
For nearly a decade I have been heavily involved in the NOMAN is an Island: Race to End HPV Campaign’s mission to achieve one goal: protect all children, both boys and girls, against HPV, the causal agent of 5% of all cancer
After encouraging countless supporters to take on challenges in support of our work, it feels right that in 2023, our 10th anniversary year, I too step up and tackle the Mediterranean in our Barcelona - Ibiza: Row to End HPV races.
That’s right, utilizing my slim, graceful, elegant and some might say fragile, frame, bolstered by arms which according to one admirer, look 'barely strong enough to wield a tennis racket', I'll be rowing hard in the blistering sun, battling salt sores, fatigue and sea sickness over 4 days as we cross the sea between the white isle and the Catalan capital.
Changing health policy in the UK to protect 400,000 boys each year alongside girls, against the devastating Human Papillomavirus remains my proudest personal and professional achievement
to date. But there is still work to be done both here in the UK as I wrote
about in The Times recently, and beyond our shores, at the global
level.
We know what it takes to ensure universal access to the HPV vaccine and increase awareness of HPV cancers and the vaccine that prevents them – we just need the resources to get it done.
My fundraising target is £5000 and I’m seeking £50 from 100 people, or whatever you can give in support of my efforts. And should you wish a personalized message of thanks from onboard in return, I’ll be more than happy to oblige.
Thank you for your support and friendship
