Last year my partner nicola went into hospital to have a mass removed that turned out to be a GIST.. The tumour was successfully removed along with some of her intestine but she has still needed further treatment. This is minimum 3 years of targeted chemotherapy, so the road to full recovery is not a short one, but one that she is coping with really well. Although she doesn't always think so. As with all illness and recovery some days are easier than others.
We are lucky Nic's situation wasn't more serious as it had gone undetected for quite a while, which I think is often the case with the more rare cancers.
This is me trying to do my bit to say thank you to raise money for a cause that isn't well funded compared to other better known charities.
Thanks
The Covid-19 pandemic has led to delays to cancer diagnosis and treatment, which could lead to as many as 35,000 additional deaths. With more than 55,000 cancer patients in England waiting for key tests, the emotional and practical support provided by less common cancer charities is needed now more than ever.As the need for charity services increases, the donations that we depend on have decreased. Many fundraising events have been cancelled or postponed but with your help GIST Cancer UK can keep supporting everyone affected by GIST.With your help, Covid -19 will not stop GIST Cancer UK investing in research and supporting GIST patients and their families.Set up your own JustGiving page or donate here to get started.
