Fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support
Story
I am fortunate to have secured a place in the Great South Run in October 2010 to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
As many of you will know I am hardly built for speed so any running event, not least a 10 mile road race in Portsmouth, will pose a significant challenge to me. I will be joining a 400 strong team of runners and I believe there are still places available if you fancy joining me!!
In February 2008 I successfully completed the “Mirage to Mirage” Sahara Hiking Challenge & thanks to the hard work and generosity of my family and friends raised £3620 for Macmillan Cancer Support. There is no fundraising target for this event but obviously I hope to raise as much as possible for a charity that is very close to my heart.
Macmillan Cancer Support rely on donations to continue making a difference by providing practical, medical, emotional and financial support for people affected by cancer throughout various centres in the UK.
Here are just a few ways in which Macmillan Cancer Support can use the money raised to improve the lives of people affected by cancer;
£1 could pay for two copies of the Understanding chemotherapy booklet. This includes sections on how the treatment works, when & how it is given, & possible side effects.
£10 could pay for 21 copies of The cancer guide. This Macmillan booklet can help someone recently diagnosed with cancer, & their families, to understand cancer, its treatment, & the help available.
£191 could pay for a Macmillan palliative care nurse for a day. They help terminally ill people & their families or carers cope with the diagnosis & support them so they can continue with their normal activities.
£651 could fund a Macmillan cancer information & support officer for a week, meaning more people affected by cancer will have someone to answer their questions & talk to about their concerns.
