Let's give Lung Cancer a knockout punch

Sydney Ultra White Collar Boxing 7th December 2019 · 9 November 2019 ·
Being both curious and competitive, boxing has been something I’ve always thought about trying (and wanting follow the footsteps of my idol Sonny Bill Williams) so when I saw this on Instagram 2 months ago, I did truly think “big brother” was watching me.
The program involves 8 weeks of intense boxing training, dieting and conditioning followed by a boxing match against another competitor. This is potentially the biggest leap out of my comfort zone to date (especially stepping into the ring with another opponent). However, what caught my attention was the reason WHY we are doing this.
We are raising money for Cancer research.
Professionally and personally, I have experienced both highs and lows with Cancer. Personally, I have been lucky to witness my beloved grandma beat the fight against breast cancer not once but TWICE! But at the same time, I have tasted defeat and lost my grandfather to kidney cancer.
As a hospital pharmacist I have seen the devastation a cancer diagnosis can bring to both an individual and their family. Cancer is debilitating. But through research, cancer diagnosis and treatments are
improving the prognosis for many patients.
So, the straw that broke the camel’s back was a recent Lung Foundation Gala dinner I attended. Here I learnt how Lung Cancer is Australia's deadliest cancer which ironically is the most underfunded. Sadly, this means many talented scientists have been unable to commence research as there is no funding to support them.
So that is why I have put my hand up to be punched in the face
(hopefully not too many times)
My ask is a $25 donation to change the trajectory and help contribute to a brighter future for Lung Cancer patients. Hopefully with your support and generosity, we can deliver a knockout blow to this lethal disease!
