Story
I will be part of 12 Firefighter strong team from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service who are raising money for a little boy, Oliver, with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma. After seeing Oliver last month it was heartbreaking to hear what he has had to endure. He is an incredibly brave young boy and we decided we had to do something to help. The money we raise will be used for a vaccine which is only available abroad and is designed to reduce the chance of the cancer returning. So here is where we get involved. We will be running as part of a relay team from Southern Fire Station, Leicester to the Crowne Plaza hotel in Newcastle to deliver a present to Oliver, his brothers and sister personally. This should take around 30 hours with no stops, and during daylight hours the team will be running in fire kit consisting of tunic and leggings, just to make this task even more difficult! Now for me personally it wouldn't be a fundraising challenge unless I was wearing fire kit so I will be wearing it for every mile I run, day and night (no BA set this time though, I've not recovered from last time!!). Each Firefighter will also take their turn in cycling the distance as well to support the person running at the time. Oliver's Uncle is a Crew Manager from Tyne and Wear Fire Service and he and our fellow brothers and sisters from Tyne and Wear will also be joining us once we have passed Leeds. Hopefully Oliver and his brothers will be joining us during the final stretch of what will be an emotional finish to the run.We are aiming to raise £5000 to go towards Oliver's treatment which is just a small amount towards the overall total needed so please kindly donate and share this page. The more attention and awareness we can generate, the more we can raise for Oliver. Please take the time to read Oliver's story below.
Oliver is 7 years old, from Sunderland and is a triplet! His favourite colour is blue, Oliver loves colouring and as you can see from the pic above, he is just as cheeky as his brothers and sister. On the 19th of Feb 2021 Oliver was diagnosed with stage 4 high risk Neuroblastoma, which is a rare and aggressive form of childhood Cancer. Oliver is currently undergoing frontline treatment at the Royal Victoria infirmary in Newcastle. He super brave and doing well but unfortunately Neuroblastoma has a high relapse rate meaning their is a high risk that Oliver's cancer will return again in the future. We are aiming to raise £260,000 for a vaccine only available abroad which is designed to reduce the chances of Oliver's cancer returning.Any support/ donation's would be so greatly appreciated! If you would like to support in fundraising please email brooke@bradleyloweryfoundation.com*Any un-used funds will go to helping other children*
