Story
My Father, David was a extraordinary and loveable person who loved life & left an instant impact on all he met.
Throughout his career he served in the Royal Navy & the Royal Marines (40 Commando Alpha Company) before becoming a Highly Qualified Rope Access Trainer & Assessor for I.R.A.T.A.
On the 9th August my Father was diagnosed with having a mass on the brain. After a rapid few weeks battle he passed away on 26th August 2015 aged just 55 years old. He fought so hard but in the end it was too much and finally he is at peace. Our whole family's hearts are broken and I don't know how we will ever manage to function normally again but my Father would of wanted to change things for others and therefore Myself & My soon to be Brother In Law (Steven Brassell) are determined to carry this on as his legacy. David would of wanted you to be part of his vision to help towards researching causes, treatments and ultimately a cure.
His diagnosis with Glioblastoma Multiforme in 2015 was an unexpected blow that turned our world upside down. Determined as ever, my father focused on fighting this devastating disease and helping others in a similar situation. This determination has been instrumental in the founding of the Memory page, which has been created to provide much needed funding for research into this form of brain tumour.
However, one of the things that has been most difficult for us all has been the lack of information about the way Glioblastomas behave. This lack of information, and the desire to try to improve the journey and outcome for others, has been the motivating force in setting up the David Somers Appeal for Brain Tumour Research, which will fund research to find a cure for this form of cancer.
So because of this myself and Steven will take part in a rally across Europe, to help raise awareness. The Rally we are going to take part in is called the Vegas or Bust Banger Rally Challenge, where we will buy a car for under £500 and try and get the car across Europe. The date we are taking part in the rally is the 6th October until 10th October 2016.
Please help us to help https://www.thebraintumourcharity.org raise money to fund research into paediatric high grade gliomas and try and stop more children and adults dying from this horrific disease.
