We help families find the strength to face everything cancer throws at them

Story

Our beautiful Rainbow Rachel passed away peacefully at home on 2nd October, 10 months after her brain tumour diagnosis. Rachel was just 25 years old. Rachel was diagnosed with an incredibly rare brainstem tumour and showed so much strength, bravery and determination throughout her illness. Sadly, despite this, this was a fight that Rachel just could not win no matter how hard she tried.

Rachel was an incredibly popular individual who was loved by so many people. She will be missed immensely by her parents David and Gill, fiancé Adam, sister Jade, Nanna Florence and all of her friends and extended family. Our lives will never be the same without her. Rachel could not wait to marry her fiancé Adam, meticulously planning every detail of their big day. It breaks our hearts that due to the progression of Rachel’s illness her dream wedding was never able to go ahead.

Rachel will be remembered as someone who was incredibly caring, generous, selfless and loyal, making her an amazing friend to so many. Her sense of humour and infectious laugh will be remembered by all who knew her. Rachel had several passions including music, singing, hosting social events for friends, quizzes, fitness and travel. Rachel was vibrant, intelligent and had achieved so much in her life. She was awarded a First Class Honours Degree in Linguistics at Lancaster University and subsequently obtained a place on the prestigious Ambitious Futures graduate scheme. Rachel went on to work at Lancaster University in the Communications Department. Rachel loved her work and was a much valued asset to her team and colleagues. We are all so proud of her.

We have so many amazing memories of Rachel and take some comfort in knowing that she is no longer suffering and is at peace. Rachel was an inspiration to so many people and we will always remember her as a ray of sunshine who loved rainbows, unicorns and life itself.

Rachel’s funeral will take place on Thursday 15th October at 12.30pm at East Lancashire Crematorium (Radcliffe). We are asking everyone to wear bright colours (no black) as per Rachel’s wishes. Unfortunately due to current Covidrestrictions we are very limited as to those who will be able to join us inside the service.

In Rachel’s memory we are asking for donations to Clic Sargent a charity that has offered invaluable support to Rachel and our family during this incredibly difficult time.

Thank you for taking the time to read Rachel’s story.

With love,

Gill, Dave, Jade and Adam
