I'm running the Addidas Silverstone half marathon on 14th March 2010 in aid of Myeloma . Myeloma is a cancer of the bone marrow affecting around 4,000 people in the each year. The average age on diagnosis is 65, however more recently, Myeloma is becoming increasingly common in younger people. Myeloma is a charity very close to my heart following the diagnosis of my partner Ceri with Myeloma last March at just 33 years of age while 3 months pregnant with our first child. Following limited treatment throughout her pregnancy, Ceri gave birth to a healthy baby boy (Robbie) in July, and she has since has undergone courses of chemotherapy and radiotherapy before a stem cell transplant in December and is now in complete remission. There is currently no cure for Myeloma so the aim of current treatment is to provide as long a remission period as possible, however recent advances in treatment are improving the outlook for patients, and maybe a cure will one day be found. Myeloma provides information and support to people affected by this illness as well as aiming to improve treatment and care through research education campaining and awareness. Myeloma has been a big support to us over the past year so I'd to give something back. Any donation that you are able to give would be greatly received to support this fantastic charity.
