Our family have suffered for many years with our Sons mental health. Something that impacts his every day life and also us all as a family. Its very rarely spoken about and theres even less support for children under secondary school age. If they achieve at school and work hard no-one seems to see theres a problem, school cant support cause theres no impact on school life, GP’s cant help as school dont see an issue.  

So as a family you just muddle through, dealing with a child that is able to ‘mask’ his emotions when at school but has to realise the stress in his safe environment ‘home’! 

At some point you hit breaking point and feel lost, hopeless and fearful for his future. Who knows what our 10 year old must be feeling!!! 

One day we stumbled across ‘The Listening Ear’, you call thinking you’ll just be given the same information about there being limited support for a 10 year old. How wrong was l!!! 

They truly did listen, within a week we had arranged a home visit with a counsellor, sessions were booked in at school to meet our Son on a weekly basis and it was a step closer to helping our Son and getting him the support he needs!!   The listening ear are a local based service in Bourenmouth and offer support for children and young people. They are a charity that recieve limited funds for self referals and ask parents to contribute what they can to help towards the cost. 

I am going to be running this race to raise awareness for this charity, hopefully raise a few pounds for them and thank them for giving us as a family hope that we can help support our Son.
