Lands End to John O'Groats - it's a very, very long way! We are attempting to complete 840 miles in 7 days at an average of just over 120 miles per day.
Why would we attempt such a thing - to raise money for our chosen charity and also of course as a personal challenge.
Why Cancer Research?
Cancer affects all of us in some way - we either have friends / relatives who have been diagnosed with Cancer or we know of people affected by this terrible, incurable disease. My father died in 2007 from Cancer. He was 76 years old and he should have had many more years of happy, healthy life - instead he was terribly ill for his last 2 years and had lived on borrowed time for 10 years since he was first diagnosed.
Did you know the average age of a male in the UK is 76 years? My father was 76 when he died! Very recently Bobby Robson passed away after a long battle with Cancer (ex England football manager for those that do not follow the beautiful game). Bobby Robson was 76 years old - i'm sure you can see where this thread is going.
After long and careful consideration I chose Cancer research as my charity. I think donating towards finding a cure for this disease is much better than treatment after the fact - so I hope you agree and support me on my travels from End to End.
It's going to be very tough and i'm fortunate to be doing it with friends so we can encourage each other and push ourselves on. We are riding 'supported', which in our case means we have a man in a motorhome following us around - his job will probably be just as hard (or perhaps worse) than us cycling. To keep our energy levels us and get us to the finish we will be eating extra - around 6,000 calories a day (I'm looking forward to that).
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now.
