Story
So this Christmas after more than likely too many Neck Oils (beers), I decided that given I turn 41 years old this year (hard to believe i know) it was about time I experienced the London Marathon.
As a family we have a long history with the event, my sister and I as children have been dragged along to witness countless family members conquer the task.
Running is something I adopted as a child from my mother, she motivated me to achieve running honours and compete for my country countless times. Sadly my mother passed away when I was young and some of my biggest achievements came after she had passed. I never took the time to process my mother loss when it happened but instead ran away from my grief in training.
So why now, given I haven't run properly for almost 5 years (largely due to a back injury which limits my ability to run to just once a week)?? I am so far from the competitive runner I was that I can safely say I will be very much in "trying to get round group" as opposed to chasing times. This means I will be able to take in the atmosphere and all the event has to offer, but more importantly I will be thinking of my mum.
So know why Cruse as a charity? Well firstly, my sister who is much more selfless than me is a fundraising manager for the charity and so it allows me to be a good brother and support her. Secondly, bereavement support is something I believe my sister and I unfortunately missed out on. If I can run around, take time to think about my mum and then help others then this can only be a good thing right?
Now the final swan song which will really get you reaching for your pockets....3.5 weeks ago I tore my calf. God knows how as I have literally only run once a week since xmas but guess old age is a thing! I won't have run for the last 4weeks at the time of writing this and hope to one way or another be in a position to be at least able to do 2 or 3 runs prior to the race day. This means to say I'll be under cooked is an understatement to say the least. Your donations will hold me firmly accountable when the inevitable "wall" hits, likely earlier than I'd hope. I will be thinking of my mum but running for Cruse and your donations. I thank anyone who donates in advance for your support and appreciate anything you can afford to give.
