Story
I'm hugely honoured to have this opportunity to raise funds for the Matt Hampson Foundation by doing the Great North Run 8 September 2019.
I have left the MHF mission statement in my story ( bottom paragraph ), but they really do SO much more. Through my involvement with Leicester Tigers Wheelchair Rugby Club, the MHF has helped me immensely. But this isn't the reason I'm doing this. I have seen first hand what they do for people with severe life changing injury and "impressive" really doesn't do them justice! They create an environment where an almost totally broken individual, reliant on others for almost everything, can transform their life, regain their independence and contribute to society, much in the same way they would have as a fully able bodied person. I can't speak highly enough of what they achieve and I would like to do my part in supporting the great work that they do.
I have MND. For those of you that aren't familiar with this condition, it's a progressive disease that over time deprives a sufferer of the ability to walk, hold, talk and eventually breath. So this will be no small undertaking for me. To make things even trickier, I will be doing the GNR in my MountainTrike, an all-terrain manual wheelchair. My legs haven't worked in sometime now and my arms are now weakened greatly. Particularly my hands and forearms. I'm also breathing with roughly the volume of a single lung now. I am determined to complete the GNR for this amazing and organisation though. If you're able, please do support them by donating. It really doesn't matter how large, or small your donation is. It will go to a great cause and make a huge difference to many.
Thank you for reading and wish me luck! :)
