Story
Hi Everyone, thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I'm fundraising for a great charity, DEBRA Ireland, who work to raise funds and awareness for children suffering from a condition known as Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) or "Butterfly Skin"
EB is a terrible condition to which there is no cure . It is caused by a fault, or mutation in the keratin or collagen gene affecting the connective tissues. As a result children with EB have extremely fragile skin. In mild cases the slightest friction can cause blistering primarily on the hands, feet, knees and elbows. Severe cases of the condition involve widespread blistering that can lead to vision loss, disfigurement and other serious medical problems. Affected children are in constant pain. The life expectancy of children with EB is extremely poor with about half not surviving past the first year of life and many dying before the age of 5.
Please take a moment to watch this 3 minute video of one brave little girl, Claudia Scanlon, who struggles everyday to live a "normal life" while dealing with this affliction https://www.youtube.com/user/DEBRAIrelandCharity
On the 26th February 2020 I have committed to the DEBRA Ireland Arctic Challenge. This involves a team of 16 taking on the challenges that surviving in the Arctic will bring. During the experience we will be required to learn basic survival skills including trekking from location to location, sleeping in tents in temperatures as low as -30 degrees Celsius, no electricity or running water. This however will not come close to what these brave children have to deal with on a daily basis.
I've created this page because I hope to, with your support, make a small difference in the lives of these children and their families.
Please help support by clicking on the donate button … every contribution will be very much appreciated.
Thank you in advance for you generosity.
Regards David
