Event: London Paris Ride 2017, from 25 May 2017 to 29 May 2017
Myeloma UK supporters cycling 500km from London to Paris in four days to raise funds for crucial myeloma research.

Story

We are both haematologists and have looked after myeloma patients for more than 30 years, David as a stem cell transplant physician and Jenny as a myeloma specialist. Jenny did a research degree in myeloma and runs a big myeloma clinic in Bristol with colleagues. She is also a member of some of the national myeloma organisations including the UK Myeloma Forum and the NCRI Myeloma Group. But that's not our reason for doing this ride….

In 2015 two of David’s brothers were diagnosed with myeloma within 3 months.  Andrew his older brother had MGUS and this changed into myeloma. He is now 6 months after his autograft and is doing well. His younger brother Michael has early myeloma and is on a trial
of a new antibody, daratumamab. He is well and working full time as a
paediatrician in Australia. So what do you do when things like this happen? Just accept them? No way! Myeloma research over the last 10 years has greatly improved the lives of myeloma patients so raising money actually matters. We both know what an amazing organization Myeloma UK is; the support that it gives to patients, families and healthcare professionals, the detailed and accurate patient information that they provide and the vision that they show in influencing health policy and directing research. We cannot think of a more worthwhile
cause to support.
The ride will be hard but it's the least we can do.
