Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
We are running the London Marathon on 4th October 2020 to raise funds for Marie Curie in memory of Una's friend Aileen who died in 2018 age 35.
Aileen was diagnosed with terminal ovarian cancer at age 25. For 10 years she fought a long and very brave battle. She endured many cycles of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, losing her beautiful long shiny hair many times. She fought her illness with dignity and unimaginable courage. Marie Curie cared for, assisted and supported Aileen throughout this time. She received regular counselling,
inpatient, day and outpatient services and had chosen to spend her final days in the Marie Curie hospice in Glasgow. On the morning of the 28th September 2018 Aileen watched the sun rise over the Campsie Hills from her room in the Hospice for the final time wrapped in the arms of her partner Paul. She died peacefully later that day surrounded by her family and friends. Aileen was 35 years old. Hearts are broken for all who knew her but she will never be forgotten.
Aileen was a fervent supporter of Marie Curie always clear that the charity helped her to live with her diagnosis. We feel very privileged to be running the London Marathon in memory of Aileen.
In working for Marie Curie I know how important the care provided by Marie Curie teams throughout our communities is to those facing what is often the darkest of times. Only through your kindness and generosity can we continue to be there for more families when they need us the most.
Thank you for helping us to do this.
