On 27th December 2008 friends of mine lost their daughter to leukemia.  Grace was just five years old and her immediate and extended family struggle every day with the reality of their loss.  Anyone suffering from cancer has a terrible battle, not just with the illness but also the treatment.  This was especially difficult for Grace and her family given that she was in and out of hospital for the last 2 years of her life.  In spite of the endless treatment she retained her sense of humor to the end and was truly a remarkable little girl. 

Many families have and will be touched by this terrible disease (my own family included).  Cancer of the blood is the biggest single cause of deaths for those under 35 years and there are 25,000 new cases diagnosed every year - a big problem by any measure. 

So Knighty - now in the veteran's category, has committed to run his third and last London marathon in April of this year. No bravado on time - just to finish in one piece and hopefully hand over some much needed funds to the Children with Cancer charity who deliver a vital service in providing, for example, temporary housing for mums and dads who have to live away from home to visit their child each day in hospital.
