Story

In Memory of Isobel Kelley (Izzy)

Yesterday (03/10/2021) I ran the Virgin London Marathon in memory of my beloved daughter Isobel.

Isobel was a happy, apparently fit and healthy two-year-old. On 27th July 2003 she got out of bed in the morning and couldn't stand up.

On 29th July 2003, she was diagnosed with a brain tumour, an inoperable central nervous system primitive ectodermal tumour (CNS PNET). These are rare and aggressive brain tumours.

Patients with a CNS PNET have a very poor prognosis and treatments such as high-dose chemotherapy and cranio-spinal radiotherapy were relatively unsuccessful with severe lifelong side effects. This was particularly the case in very young children like Izzy.

Izzy had various procedures and operations to provide relief to the symptoms she was suffering, but never once complained. Despite a very brave battle against this terrible disease, she died at home just three weeks after her first diagnosis.

Despite it being 18 years since Isobel left us and despite some fantastic advances in the diagnosis and treatment of brain tumours, there is still a long way to go before this terrible disease can be cured. So please, be generous with your donations.

Izzy was a happy, healthy, bright, fun-loving and mischievious little girl, who is missed every day. If the research I am fundraising for means that other families do not have the agony of hearing "there is not treatment available" in this era of such fantastic advances elsewhere in the medical and scientific world, then I will have achieved my aim.

Thank you for your help

Dave
