Story
On September 4th 2013 I successfully swam the English Channel. this was a gruelling challenge and took me 12 hours and 20 minutes.
Not only was it physically very tough but mentally it was an enormous challenge with huge ups and downs during the swim as well as the training regime. I had to combat sea temperatures of 17-18 degrees during training, many jelly fish stings huge container vessels and ferries to make it across but I am delighted that I attempted and succeeded.
Enormous thanks go to my wife Emily, children Euan and Eva for putting up with a cranky daddy and allowing me to train for up to 13 hours at weekends. Huge thanks to my crew Jen, Mark, Richard and Rob who kept me going throughout and to Mike Ball my observer as well as Mike Oram my pilot who sorted me out with rice pudding when my feeding was not working! Also to Freda and the beach crew in Dover - without their help in training I would never have made it.
To give some perspective I am around the 1400th person to swim the English Channel solo. I believe around 3500+ have climbed Mt Everest!
I am raising money for this charity as both of my Grandmothers have suffered from Alzheimer's and Dementia in their later years. Any donation you can make will be gratefully received.
Many thanks,
David
