Story
Last year was going to be the last time I ran the Great North Run. I changed my mind. This year is going to be the last time I "run" the GNR. Actually, I'll run it every year if we're still in the grip of the cost of living crisis. Raising some money for charity, and raising awareness of fuel poverty, seems like the least I can do. And what a way to celebrate my double 21st birthday.
From October National Energy Action predict 8.2 million UK households could be in fuel poverty – that’s one in three. Currently. around 6.5 million UK households are in the grip of fuel poverty, unable to afford to heat their homes to the temperature needed to keep warm and healthy. We should all be able to stay warm at home. However rising energy costs, low incomes and energy-inefficient homes are restricting people’s options, leaving them in impossible situations like having to choose between heating their home, feeding their children or paying their rent.
I can't imagine as a parent or carer having to make the decision of whether to heat or eat. And it's only going to get worse over the winter. I would be grateful for anything you can donate - thank you.
