Story
Hi, we’re Sue (Shortt) and Dave (Johnston-Smith) and we’re doing the Chester 10k on Sunday 10th March 2019 to raise awareness of the hospice movement in general, and the Hospice of the Good Shepherd in Chester in particular. In addition, if we can raise a few pounds to help them out, so much the better.
Sue has worked at the hospice as a counsellor for several years, and
sees first hand the amazing work they do, not only for those receiving
palliative and end of life care as in-patients, but also by providing day-care and out-patient support to the carers and families of all those affected by a patient’s life-limiting diagnosis. The counselling team also offer bereavement support to the community of West Cheshire.
Many of you may not know how hospice funding works, but less
than a third of the £4 million annual running costs of the Hospice of the Good Shepherd is government funded, so to keep going they rely hugely on charitable donations in order to undertake their good work. Anyone who has had relatives or friends who have made use of hospice services will know what truly wonderful places they are. Please do help The Hospice of the Good Shepherd by sponsoring us for this race, or the wider hospice movement by checking out your local hospice and doing something for them.
We have both run a 10k before, in times of a fraction under, and a fraction over an hour. We are hoping, firstly, just to get around, and secondly aiming for a combined time of under two hours. We’ll certainly do our best.
Many thanks for reading this!
