Story

As many of you will know I am a devout meat eater, I can think of few things better than tucking into a freshly roasted leg of lamb, a sausage & bacon French stick smothered in brown sauce & mustard, a hamburger so big you could beat a cow to death with it or a pizza so drenched in pepperoni you’d mistake it for the acne ridden face of a teenage tearaway… Meat is life, good life!

I may have, over the years ripped into, made fun of and\or generally abused my vegetarian friends. I’m not by any means saying they don’t deserve this kind of derision but it got me thinking, could I handle a life without the pleasures of the roasted \fried \grilled \glazed \skewered \marinated \spiced \sliced \cured \rolled \sizzling flesh?

You see, I believe that there are only two reasons for vegetarianism:

  1. You don’t like the taste of meat (But then there’s a good chance you’re not actually human)

  2. You're allergic to meat

So what better way to raise money for a great cause than by biting the bullet and going veggie myself for a full month!

But there’s Quorn!

It pains me to see veggie sausage & bacon on sale, it pains me even more to see them on someone's plate! if somebody desires the taste and texture of meat then (in my opinion) they should just eat meat rather than trying to replace it with second rate substitutes. Yes I have tasted this Quorn. It is the devil’s work! A non-flavoursome, textured, pointless mush. I have devoured tastier cardboard boxes…. Sadly, Quorn is all I will have as of the first of Feb when I plan to take the dark road out of the meaty light. Bacon will be but a dream to treasure, to hold dear to me, to help me through those cold, frosty nights knowing that I will taste its sweet embrace once again (unless I really like the veggie life….. Nah).

So that is my goal, it may not seem like much to some but to me it is one hell of a challenge. As of 00:01 on 01/02/15 - 00:01 on 01/03/15 I will be living a meat free life (You really don't know how hard it was for me to write that), that even includes any sweets or other food that may use meat by-products in their manufacture.

My wife and family will be there to keep me on the straight and narrow and I will post a daily food diary to my FB account (with pictures) to show my miserable progress into the abyss.

I almost made it the vegan challenge but even I’m not that stupid!

It is my aim to raise at least £300 for Bedford based charity The Road Victims Trust

The Road Victims Trust is a registered charity offering a range of free support services to residents of Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire who have been affected by fatal road collisions. They are dedicated to supporting people who have been affected by the grief and trauma of a road death. Their services are available to family, friends and colleagues of the person who has been killed as well as to witnesses of fatal and life changing injury road collisions.

You can find out more about them here: http://www.rvtrust.org.uk/

If you can donate then I would be very grateful and so would The Road Victims Trust.
