Story
Hi everybody…the final chapter!!!!
Can I just say for the final time that 26.2 miles is a blooming long way :-)
Well it’s done and I finished…what a fantastic experience!!! The crowds supporting all of the runners were fantastic, total strangers cheering you on is amazing.
Hotel was good and registering at the excel exhibition went smoothly…finding the start line the next day was easy…not so sure about the toilet experience :-)…then everything changed :-)
I did the run in 5hrs 45mins…I know, I know, the Rhinos and pantomime horse were quicker :-) lol
The first 6/7 miles went well…got to half way in 2hrs 26mins so there and there about’s for under/just over 5 hrs…
Unfortunately I started cramping in the calf’s at 12 miles…this then worked its way into my back muscles at 14 miles…but I managed to run to 16 miles point and from then on it was run and walk…I never actually stopped :-)…from 20/21 it was mainly walk but I managed to run the last mile for the cameras :-)
The support by the gang at Arthritis Research UK was excellent and they really made me and Karen very welcome…the after party with food and drink and most importantly a massage was just what the cramp ordered :-)
I had blisters the size of golf balls on the inner of the balls of my feet…photos available on request…the second of which I popped this morning…but at least my nipples were unscathed :-)
Then it was just a little matter of driving home…thank heavens for cruise control…arrived back at just after 11pm…quick bath and straight to bed…and into work this morning :-)…yes I am aching…lol
I was sure I had under 5 hrs in me…but looking back 3 months training was not enough and losing another stone and a half would have helped :-) lol…I know a few of you logged onto the website and tracked my progress…I bet you thought I had given up didn’t you :-) lol
Never mind, there’s always next year :-) lol…
Once again can I just say a big thank you to those who have made a donation to the cause and supported me vocally in this challenge…it was and is very much appreciated… well over my target which is just fantastic :-) and I know Arthritis Research UK are extremely grateful
Signing off for now
Dave
Hi everybody…time for an update
4 weeks to go and I am still wondering why I am doing this :-)…26 miles is a long long way :-)
I have now covered approximately 200 miles!!! and in an attempt to make this challenge easier I recently purchased some new fancy trainers (in the hope that I can bounce around the course)…one of those shops where they watch you on the treadmill and tell you what type of trainers you need…so far all they have done is given me a couple of blisters :-(
The plus side is that the weight is slowly coming off and I am down a couple of belt notches :-)
Can I just say a big thank you to those who have made a donation to the cause, it is very much appreciated…
To everyone else who is wanting to make a donation I know that four weeks sounds a long time but it would be a huge boost for me to continue my training knowing the pounds are in the bag J…every penny is very welcome…the link is below
Many thanks
David
Hi everybody, it's me again...Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Here it is...as promised...my next challenge...the Virgin London Marathon 2012. Some of you may have noticed I left you alone last year...and this was the reason....the big one...26.2 miles :-)...I am hoping you have saved what would have been your donation for an event last year in order to double up for this one...hopefully you will agree with me that this is a huge challenge and that the charity that I have chosen is a very worthy cause. Arthritis affects many people both young and old and can have a huge impact on someone's quality of life!!! My mum has recently been diagnosed with two types of arthritis and so I am seeing first hand the dramatic affects and changes it can have on someone.
Training is underway and I have covered approximately 140 miles with a further 6 weeks to go...the aim - to run it all without stopping and keep under the 5 hour barrier
