Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

It is with a great deal of regret that I have to inform you that I have had to withdraw from the BUPA 10K Manchester run on the 26 May 2013.

The reason that I can’t participate is that I started with a chest infection and a cold on the 4 May. I visited my Doctor and was prescribed antibiotics and an inhaler. My health wasn't improving and I arranged to see my Doctor again on 13th May. He prescribed a different type of antibiotic and a steroid inhaler. He also wanted me to go for an x ray on my chest at Leigh Infirmary.

I have only finished the second pack of antibiotics on the 20th May.

This would have been the third time that I had participated in the race to raise money for The Christie, but due to the circumstances that I have mentioned I would be unable to do any training and I believe that it could be dangerous to run until I have built up my general health again.

Health permitting, I fully intend to participate in the BUPA 10K Manchester race in 2014 and possibly another race prior to that.

The sponsorship that has been paid through Justgiving goes directly through to The Christie straight away and therefore can be used to help with research and helping people immediately which is the main thing.

I hope you understand and thank you for your help to raise money for a great cause.

My name is David Haworth and three members of my family have died from cancer.

I am trying to raise money for The Christie and Bolton Hospice, two very worthy causes who do a fantastic job for people with cancer and only get part of their funding from the NHS.

I was very impressed with the standard of care that Steven, my Son, received at The Christie and at Bolton Hospice. The staff and volunteers were very professional, caring and have a very difficult job to do.

My Son, Steven was diagnosed with Cancer at the end of November 2010 at the age of 29. The type of Cancer was Small Cell Cancer, a very aggressive type.

He needed two operations at Hope Hospital, Salford on his spine and neck and then he went to The Christie for his Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy sessions. The Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy didn't work and he was transferred to Bolton Hospice at the start of February. He had been kept informed at each stage and he knew the prognosis and how quickly things were moving on.

Steven died during the afternoon of his 30th birthday, on the 13th February 2011.

The staff at Hope Hospital, The Christie and Bolton Hospice were brilliant.

My Sister in Law, Lynne died from cancer in 2010 after a courageous three year battle and most recently in 2013 my Aunt died from Leukemia after a long illness.

This is the third time that I will be taking part in the BUPA 10K Manchester run, which this year is on the 26th May 2013.

I am very keen to raise as much as I can for The Christie and the Bolton Hospice, who rely heavily on donations to keep their services going.

It would be great if you could help me, by donating whatever you can, to make sure that these services are still available to other people in the future.
