Story
HIGH SHERIFF OF THE COUNTY PALATINE OF DURHAM
Having been born and spent most of my working life
living in County Durham, I have had the privilege of becoming involved in many voluntary organisations and have been humbled to see first- hand how freely many individuals are prepared to give of their time to care for and help guide others when on occasions, they literally have nowhere else to turn.
Before I was installed as High Sheriff of County Durham in March, I committed to raising money for a number of local organisations within County Durham, by walking the course of the two main rivers in the County, namely the Tees and Wear to the North Sea.
On 30th March I completed the first 20 miles of the Tees and I intend to complete the walks over the forthcoming weekends, walking down the River Tees to the estuary in Middlesborough and then in July, I will walk from the source of the River Wear, to Sunderland Harbour. The organisations I would like to financially assist via my Charitable Fund at CDCF include: East Durham Trust, Wear Valley Women’s Aid, Consett Churches Detached Youth Project and Upper Teesdale Agricultural Support Services.
Never in our lifetimes, have we as a nation and world, met
such extraordinary challenges. The organisations I would like to support are currently offering front line, practical, emotional and financial help, together with support, encouragement and perhaps most importantly, hope – something that we are all having to cling onto.
Anything that you can give would be most gratefully received
