On 18th September I'm running the Great North Run in memory of Esme Carter...
In May 2010, my friend's daughter was diagnosed with the disease Haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis, or HLH.
Esme was transferred to Great Ormond Street and embarked on a course of treatment not dissimilar to Leukemia. Unfortunately the survival rates are much lower.
After weeks of chemotherapy, countless operations and a bone marrow transplant, the decision was taken to turn off Esme's life support on 15th July 2010
This years Great North Run on 18th September coincides with what would have been Esme's 3rd birthday.
On the same day, Jason Carter, his wife Kelly along with family and friends are running the Farnham Marathon to raise money for HYSTIOCYTOSIS ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA, who's mission is to evolve understanding and treatment of HLH, and send more children like Esme home to their families.
Jason and Kelly have set themselves a staggering target of raising $100,000 for the HAA.
I can't waste this opportunity to lend my support, so please donate anything you can
