Story
Did you know that brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under 40?
On the morning of Monday February 3rd 2014 I knew very little about brain tumours, by the end of that week I'd know far more than I thought I'd ever need to know...
That Monday my sister, Alex, underwent 7 hours of emergency brain surgery at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford to remove a "mass" roughly the size of a tangerine. This "mass" turned out to be an "anaplastic astrocytoma" - a grade 3 glioma. Through the skill of the surgeons and Alex's sheer bloody mindedness she came through the surgery. Since then she's recuperated and undergone 6 long weeks of radiotherapy.
I'm raising money for The Brain Tumour Charity to aid their efforts in raising awareness of brain tumours, funding research into diagnosis and treatment of brain tumours, and support of those people and their loved ones with brain tumours. This will be the first of many runs I plan to undertake, all with the aim of raising as much money as possible for a very important cause.
