Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Hi

I’m running the Great North Run this year for The Sick Children’s Trust, ok it’s not a local charity but that’s the point, it’s a home from home for family’s when their children are receiving specialist care miles away from home. We benefitted directly at Christmas when No1 son Joe was admitted to the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle with Pneumonia and Pleurisy.

We had a great holiday planned, a week’s skiing in France followed by a stop off at Eurodisney on the way home, swapped it for a room at the SCT and were very well looked after. Joe still not back up to full strength, his younger brother Sam is faster than him now and it does not go down well.

Pictures tell a 1000 words especially if they also have words, please take a look.

ONE WEEK TO GO UPDATE

Running for 13.1 miles, what's that like. Well on Thursday night I actually did it with 10 laps plus of Stewart Park in Boro. Surprisingly the actual physical effort of running was not the hardest part, sore feet, achy knees, bleeding nipples and stomach cramps were all things I had not encountered on my shorter training runs. In some pain now thou, hence up so early on a Saturday morning.

Things could have been worse, been found incapacitated, smelly (full details of aromas and escaping bodily fluids withheld) wearing a blood stained vest slumped against a tree mumbling and clutching an empty drinks bottle was nearly the outcome. Despite my good looks, athletic physique and down with the kids popularity of a 24 year old I'm actually  twice that age and will be eligible for Age UK help in less than 2 years. Looking at saga holidays not running stupid distances should be in my plans.

I signed up for this whilst spending my Christmas holidays at the Sick Children’s Trusts Scott House next to the Freemen Hospital in Newcastle, it seemed like a good idea at the time. If you have already donated thanks very much, knowing we have made a difference to a such a good cause and been able to thank them financially for the great service they provided my family and many others families with children suffering from far more medical troubles than Joe’s will make the pain and suffering more bearable (hopefully!).

ONE WEEK TO GO !!!!! ONE WEEK TO GO !!!!! ONE WEEK TO GO !!!!

So with 2 hours of running ahead of me please take 2 mins to suport this. Don't be intimidated by some of the very generous donations I have received so far. A pound and a nice encouraging message will be fantastic, £10 minimum for cheeky comments, £20 for insults please.
