Story
I have been working as a Volunteer for the Meningitis Trust in Stroud since April and I thouroughly enjoy working here. It is not just that it is great working atmosphere with a great bunch of friendly people, but it is a genuine charity. Not faceless like charities i ave worked for before; while I am working I can hear the support team behind me taking calls from Meningitis sufferers, advising them and giving help on how they can cope with the mental and physical after effects of such debilitating affliction.
I am a keen runner, but merely for fun and fitness. However I got offered a place to run in the Frampton 10k a month ago last minute. So I proudly donned my Meningitis Trust Vest and set off. Being a Frampton resident passing the Pub I got a lot of encouragement as well as scornfull jealously, even though I have hd 3 knee opperations and re-occuring Achilles Tendon injuries, I set to prove the disbelievers wrong. Even with shooting pain through my tendons, the atmosphere running alongside 200 other runners and thought of a pint at the end allowed me to complete it in under an hour. Crossing the finishing line with cheers and photos from my mates at the pub was amazing. I was also egged on by my friend on her horse trying to out run me. A well deserved pint in the blistering heat and the knowledge that the Stroud Half should be easy peasey!
