Story
Virgin Money are supporting our charity partner Macmillan Cancer Support with their Men and Cancer campaign, to help men find the words to talk about cancer.
Macmillan know that men tend not to speak about the signs, symptoms and impacts of cancer. In the UK, 51% of cancer cases are men, however new research shows that in 2020 only 31% of calls to the Macmillan Support Line came from men. Macmillan want to do whatever it takes to ensure men of all ages, all backgrounds and ethnicities, get the right kind of support at every stage of their cancer journey.
As part of this campaign, I will be taking on my very own 'Macmillon' challenge to walk one million steps in the month of June to raise money for Macmillan. That's 33,333 steps per day, every day!
Macmillan is especially close to my heart as I have seen significant loss within my own family from a very early age, with my mother losing both of her brothers to cancer, one at only 33 years old. Both my mother and father have experienced their own brushes with cancer this year, which has been especially worrying as we also lost my grandfather to cancer. I have seen first hand the devastating impact on those who have to deal with a cancer diagnosis, as well as those family members who lose someone that they love. I am determined to achieve my ambition of a million steps in June to help highlight the great work that Macmillan do to help people to cope with their cancer diagnosis.
Together, we can raise awareness and help more men find the words to seek support from those around them and Macmillan Cancer Support,
Thank you for your support, David
