Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am running the London Marathon for the first time and every penny raised will be donated to Action for A-T. Running a marathon is not something I’ve ever considered and I’m by no means a ‘runner’ - But I will run this Marathon under 4hrs. (With a lot of training)
Some context…
Back in 2016 my friends Emma and Tommy gave birth to their gorgeous boy, Jack.
In 2018 Jack was diagnosed with A-T (ataxia-telangiectasia). I had never heard of this, and found out it is a rare and complex genetic disorder. It is often referred to as a ‘multi-system’ disorder because it affects a number of different systems within the body.
Ataxia or loss of coordination is normally the first and most obvious sign that a child has A-T. This doesn’t usually affect their learning to walk, but they will usually be unsteady on their feet. The coordination problems soon start to affect speech, making it hard to pronounce words. Over time also eating and swallowing are also affected, as these require considerable muscle coordination.
In around two out of three people with A-T, their immune system is significantly affected. These are just a few of the very long list of how A-T affects someone.
Action for A-T is completely funded by grants and donations, so EVERY SINGLE PENNY counts. To keep doing what they do best, they need our help. Your support means they can continue to raise awareness, be there with emotional and practical assistance for new families, commission more medical research and provide a vital information resource for everyone involved with A-T.
I know Action for A-T have been the most incredible support for so many families, so no matter how big or small, every penny counts.
Thank you so much for your donation (and wish me luck!)
