Story
Challenge complete! - after 268 miles I am pleased to say I have now completed the Pennine Way in my target of 10 days. From 80 degree heat to 80 mph winds, not forgetting the horizontal hail and waist deep peat bogs, the conditions were challenging but with great support from family and friends I staggered into Kirk Yetholm on Saturday afternoon.
I will do a fuller update to all those who have kindly sponsored me and helped me exceed my initial £5,000 target, needless to say if you have yet to donate further donations would be very gratefully received.
From 29 September to 8 October I set myself the challenge of running the 268 miles of the Pennine Way from Edale in Derbyshire to Kirk Yetholm in the Borders in order to raise money for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.
As you may know the cause is personal as in 2002 I was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma and underwent successful chemotherapy and radiotherapy at the Royal Marsden Hospital. I was lucky that there is a well established treatment protocol for Hodgkins but other types of blood cancers still require research to increase survival rates.
My challenge is not an organised event and every penny raised will go to help research into blood cancers. I intend to run at least 26 miles a day and am being assisted by colleagues at BNP Paribas Real Estate, friends and family.
