Story
A message from Eva's Mum, Lauri.
This is my beautiful little girl Eva (known fondly as Eva Diva). She was diagnosed in February 2016 (age 6) with a rare aggressive children’s cancer, called Neuroblastoma.
Neuroblastoma is the second most common solid tumour in
children, with fewer than 100 children in the uk diagnosed each year. Eva’s primary tumour was found in her abdomen at roughly the size of a grapefruit. Eva had no symptoms other than developing a slight limp and occasional pain to her right hip. After four weeks in and out of hospital for investigations, an ultrasound revealed an extensive tumour in her tummy. From this day our world changed forever. Not only had my baby had cancer, but with the aggressive nature of neuroblastoma it had spread to her bone and bone marrow (stage 4), where we quickly realised we had a big fight on our hands.
Eva’s strength throughout her 15 month battle was incredible and she never complained. After numerous rounds of chemotherapy, major surgery and radiotherapy, Eva’s cancer could not be cleared from her bone marrow and she developed secondary tumours throughout her little body. She was sadly taken from us in may 2017 when she lost her battle. But her strength, courage, and humour will never be forgotten.
Lauri
(Eva’s proud mum).
