We fund long-term, sustainable research to find a cure for brain tumours

Story

Prof. Gail Stephenson set up the orthoptic degree programme at the University of Liverpool, working both nationally and internationally to further the profession of orthoptics. Additionally via her love of sport, researched the importance of visual function in football including working with Manchester United and advising of the poor contrast with the infamous grey kit.

I have known Gail as my teacher since I began training at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital. Since then she has become a lifelong mentor, friend and colleague. Her enthusiasm, dedication and passion for orthoptics at Liverpool, nationally and internationally will not be surpassed. She will be terribly missed on a personal level and by the profession. In memory of Gail we would like to raise some money via running the London Marathon (David) and Wigan 10k (Charlotte) to help support the important work of research specifically on brain tumours to better understand and treat people suffering from this disease.

Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer. Just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this disease. We are a leading voice calling for support and action for research into what is called the last battleground against cancer.
