The Challenge - Lakes in Day 50 mile Ultramarathon
At 8am on Saturday 12th October 2019, I'll be setting off on the 'Lakes in a Day' 24 hour race. It's a continuous 50 mile race with 4000 meters of climbing.
You can track me live at http://live.opentracking.co.uk/lakesday19/ - I’m number 6!
The race starts in Caldbeck at the northern most point of the Lake District, ending in Cartmel, the southern most point in the Lake District. Along the way I'll be ascending some of the highest summits in England including Blencathra (868m), Helvellyn (950m) and Fairfield (873m), before running the entire length of the Windermere lake and beyond.
The race must be completed by 8am on Sunday 13th October, meaning a large portion of this race will be in complete darkness. The race is also a self sufficient, self navigated race, meaning I'll have to carry all of the essential safety equipment, and food and drink.

My chosen charity - Move Against Cancer
I'm running this race in aid of 'Move', a charity which helps young people living with and beyond cancer by assisting their recovery with physical activity and provides face to face, and online support. The current evidence base for cancer survivorship strongly advocates participation in physical activity, with the National Cancer Survivorship Initiative stating that there is; "Persuasive evidence that a healthy lifestyle during and after cancer is associated with improved physical and psychological well-being".
With 'Move' being a small but growing charity, every donation they receive is crucial to providing this support, so please give what you can, it will all be hugely appreciated, and hopefully make a direct positive impact on somebody that is living with and beyond cancer.
I know from experience the positive mental impact that running and exercise can have on your life and wellbeing, so I really admire what Move are doing, and what a positive effect they will have on peoples lives.

My Training
I've been training hard for this since entering the race back in November 2018, and it will be the toughest physical challenge I have ever faced. This type of race will have many mental highs and lows, and any donation you give will be that positive extra push for me to keep on going. So thank you in advance.
