Story
If you had told me two years ago that I’d be running a half-marathon in 2019, I’d never have believed you…
As you may know, in May 2017 I ended up in hospital where I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes as a result of being terribly overweight for way too many years. I left hospital with a blood tester, boxes of medication and the potential of health problems and complications for the rest of my life.
I didn’t like that at all, and I decided I wasn’t going to accept the path I had put myself on as a result of my unhealthy lifestyle. I completely changed my diet, lost 40kg and started to exercise. I was taken off medication within a few months of being diagnosed, and also found a real love for exercise. My diagnosis was the best thing that ever happened to me because it made me make the changes I needed to live a happier, healthier and hopefully longer life.
If you'd like to read more about the story, I wrote about it in more detail here: https://daveverwer.com/blog/one-year-later/
So when I had the opportunity to run this half marathon for Diabetes UK to help them raise money to set other people on the same path that I took, I couldn't resist. Type 2 diabetes doesn’t have to be something you just accept and live with, and I’d love it if you sponsored me so this great charity can spread that message more widely than I can.
