Story
I'm no stranger to putting my face in uncomfortable places... but this is usually between the sweaty backsides of some front row forwards..... the chilly waters of the English Channel will be an entirely new uncomfortable experience
I will be taking a few days out of pre season number 18 and swimming across the English Channel (approximately 22 Miles) in a relay with a couple of friends. This will entail hour long bouts of swimming in the frigid waters until we reach the other side wearing nothing but speedos and a pair of goggles.
I have already begun training and have gradually been reducing the temperature of my evening baths to help me prepare. Currently I am down to 34 degrees... currently the water in the channel is 7 degrees... so I have a way to go yet...
For perspective... there have been less than 5000 successful channel crossings made by swimmers... and there have been almost 7000 successful ascents of Mount Everest.
The English Channel is traversed by approximately 600 Tankers and a further 200 ferries every single day... and during the middle of July... a few lads in speedos
We will be doing this to help raise money for Aspire and all the amazing things that they do in order to support the lives of people with spinal cord injuries
