Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have chosen the Stroke Association as my charity to donate to because not only did I have a TIA last year but I am also running in the memory of Lynn's dad (Fred (Turner) who had a massive stroke and has since passed away on 9th July 2010 and for Bill (Dover) the dad of our very good friend Coreen, who also had a major stroke and died on 4th November last year.
I feel lucky that I wasn't affected as badly as some and hopefully I will complete the Great North Run half marathon and the money raised will be of benefit to people who have suffered from strokes and their carers in the future.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
I started training a few months back, but started getting pains in the soles my feet which also go numb as well, so that stopped me from continuing.
I then developed shingles, which i've had for a few weeks now. It took the rash about 3 weeks to go, but i'm still getting the pain down my right side. I am trying to control it with pain killing patches and tablets. That is gradually getting better.
I had an MIR scan on my feet but has found nothing, so next week I am having an EMG(?) scan for nerves and seeing a Vascular consultant to see if it's circulation problems, so it's very much ongoing at the moment.
I am going for long walks and the odd run at the moment to try and keep some sort of fitness up.

Well, it’s just 2 weeks today until the BIG event. I must say that I am looking forward to it, although I am still in pain with my feet. I have seen even more Consultants and have had more tests and still no clue as to what is causing the pain. I know that I shall be able to walk it if I have to, but I intend to run as much of it as I can. Once again thanks to all of you who have sponsored me so far and hopefully the next time that you should hear from me is to say that I have completed the run and in what time.
Don’t forget it’s on TV, BBC1 on 13th September in the morning – look out for me in the wake of Mo Farrah (ha ha). My race number is 39763.
