Wolverhampton Marathon and Half Marathon 6th September 2009
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
As many of you may know, two years ago, my Brother, Clive Kettle, died of a stroke at his home in Portugal. He was 62 years old. Every year an estimated 150,000 people in the UK have a stroke. Of all people who suffer from a stroke, about a third are likely to die within the first 10 days, about a third are likely to make a recovery within one month and about a third are likely to be left disabled and needing rehabilitation. Stroke has a greater disability impact than any other medical condition. A quarter of a million people are living with long-term disability as a result of stroke in the UK.
So on Sunday 6th September 2009 I will be running in the Wolverhampton Marathon in aid of the Stroke Association - I have never run a Marathon before and hope that I can complete the course - ( I ran the Birmingham Half-marathon in October last year in aid of Cancer Research UK - we'll have to see how twice the distance feels! ) I have trained since March, interupted by an annoying calf strain, so it's fingers crossed that my aching muscles & bones will carry me through ; This is a Charity which means a lot to me personally so please donate what you can. This site will be open until 6th December to receive donations.
Best Wishes
Dave
7th September 2009 - I completed the Wolverhampton Marathon yesterday in a time of 4hrs, 22mins and 33secs. (9th in my category - Males over 55) Thanks to all those who turned up at the park to support me – a very welcome picnic! Weigh-in this morning showed that I have lost 5lbs (and I have been eating and drinking solid since the run)
Thanks everyone
Dave
