Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Currently cycling Vietnam-Cambodia (19th-29th November) - catch up with photos on

This is my 5th Charity challenge but it is the first time I have raised money for the Christie Hospital in Manchester. Maybe it's the age we have reached, but we all seem to know lots of people who have been affected by cancer and in the last 12 months 3 people close to Sue and I have been treated at Christies. Outcomes for some are still ongoing but it seems to be an illness that touches every family at some time or other. I am cycling through Vietnam and Cambodia in late November, covering 400km  in 6 days; it isnt the hills of the Rockies this time but the heat and humidity that will provide the challenge. I am a sun lover but cycling in it is a completely different matter! It would be much appreciated if you could find some dosh for sponsorship.

Donating through Just Giving is very easy and the money goes directly to Christies. Just so that you are aware all the costs of the trip, travel and expenses are being paid for by me so ALL the money raised will go to the charity.

For those interested:- Our intinery is....
Day 1 - Depart the UK for our overnight flight to Ho Chi Minh City, formerly Saigon.
Day 2 - Arrive Ho Chi Minh City, After bike fitting and trip orientation briefing, the rest of the day is at leisure.
Day 3 – Ho Chi Minh City – Ben Tre – Tra Vinh: Today’s ride will lead biker’s right into the heart of rural Mekong. Cycling distance – 52km
Day 4 – Tra Vinh – Can Tho: We push on with our cycling adventure - the roads are now peaceful, narrow and very pretty all the way to Can Tho. Cycling distance – 80km
Day 5 – Can Tho – Lai Vung – Long Xuyen – Chau Doc: We weave through morning market bustle, absorb the sights of endless cottage industries, timber merchants, coconut  shredders and small docks loading/unloading rice. Cycling distance – 95km
Day 6 – Chau Doc – Phnom Penh: Today is a shorter days cycling, in the afternoon we ride to the famous Tuol Sleng Museum and the infamous Killing Fields of Cambodia – a very  popular attraction.
Day 7 – PhnomPenh – Kompong Tom: We pass lotus ponds, local villages, rice fields, fish farms, with mountain views in the distance. Cycling distance – 89km
Day 8 – Kompong Thom – Sambo Prei Kulk – Siem Reap: We cycle from Kompong Thom towards the 7th century Sambor Prei Kuk temple complex and then onto Siem Reap.  Cycling distance – 60km
Day 9 – Free day exploring Angkor Wat: With our bikes we spend the day exploring the incredible Angkor ruins either as a group or individually. Then head back to Siem Reap and celebrate our fundraising achievements at our celebratory dinner.

PS could do with some free days in this lot!!!!!!!!!!!! By the time early December arrives my best friend will be my saddle. I'm advised that Sudacreme rather than Stella is advisable each evening!!!!!!!!!

 Thanks for your support, Dave
