Story
ONE YOU EAST SUSSEX WILL BE RAISING MONEY FOR AGE UK EAST SUSSEX THROUGH TWO EXCITING EVENTS!
1) DAVE, OUR HEAD OF SERVICE, WILL BE RUNNING THE BRIGHTON MARATHON IN APRIL 2022!
2) THE ONE YOU EAST SUSSEX TEAM ARE PARTICIPATING IN A FANTASTIC CHALLENGE TO COVER THE DISTANCE FROM ONE END OF GREAT BRITAIN TO THE OTHER...
How do you keep connected when your team is scattered across
a county of 660 square miles, with no idea of when we can meet together again? How do you stay connected and share a common goal, giving back to the community at the same time?
Look, we’re One You East Sussex. And you know what that means; we like a challenge, we like each other, and we like being physical!
So, the idea of the monthly timed relay was born. We’re aiming to rack up the distance from Land’s End to John O’Groats - that’s 1,407 kilometres.
Starting from wherever we are in the country, each person is given a time slot at 30-minute intervals throughout the first Saturday of each month. We run / walk / jog / cycle for 30 minutes exactly, handing the virtual ‘baton’ over to the next person in turn. When everyone has completed their leg, the distances are added up to see how far we’ve managed to travel ‘together’.
It’s a really fun way of keeping in touch, feeling like we’re still a team, and achieving big things – like we always do! So, it’s a little microcosm of the One You East Sussex experience; connection, success and teamwork.
The relay’s really inclusive; some people have covered a kilometre or two in their 30 minutes while walking with dogs or toddlers, and some (you can guess who!) take the distance really seriously.
With an average monthly total of around 78 km, it’ll take a good 18 months to go the full distance. But that’s ok. John O’Groats will be waiting for us and we’ll get there together. Whether we’ve been allowed to gather together physically before then or not, we’ll succeed as a team like we always do.

Social Value
We have a team of 50 highly motivated, passionate and amazing people. In addition to our day to day OYES delivery, we have a responsibility for our service to enhance social value. As such, we are aiming to raise in excess of £2000 for a local charity; the team collectively nominated Age UK East Sussex to be that charity!
Why Age UK East Sussex?
OYES is accessible via 70 community based locations, county wide (in addition to remote support). Our main office is based at Faraday House, in Eastbourne, where we are are a tenant of Age UK East Sussex. Sharing the building, we have had the privilege to see and hear about the amazing work Age UK East Sussex are involved in; they really are making a difference! As a team, we are delighted to play a small part in supporting their journey and because of our unique relationship and insight into the organisation, we know they will do fantastic things with the money raised! OYES supports adults of all ages. We feel by supporting Age UK East Sussex, this is also a really positive way of enhancing awareness of our services to the people who engage with their organisation (we're accessible to all and you will be welcomed with open arms!)
