Hi Everyone,
For me, St George’s Day usually means the last of the hot cross buns and a pint or two in celebration of my patron Saint, however, this year it will mean running 26 miles 385 yards as part of the TCS London Marathon.
On top of finishing the marathon, I have additional pressure to reach the finish line as I have the privilege of running for a wonderful charity, The National Deaf Children’s Society. That being said, I am relishing the challenge and the training!
Everyday five more babies are born deaf in the UK alone, but National Deaf Children’s Society continues to break down barriers and offer vital support to allow deaf children the same opportunities as their peers.
They offer initial assistance and support to families of deaf babies, and as the children grow, NDCS support families through the process of development. A child signing their name to mum & dad for the first time can be an incredibly emotional experience and NDCS are there every step of the way.
Their work and support doesn’t stop there; they go on to mentor children and young adults through those difficult teenage years, working with secondary schools to ensure that individuals are fully integrate into society.
I was lucky enough to be introduced to a family who have benefitted from the NDCS. I desperate to make a good impression so had been practicing my signing as an introduction, but, much to their merriment and my embarrassment I managed to introduce myself as Diva instead of Dave! Let’s hope my running is better than my sign language! Joking aside, it was amazing to see first hand the incredible
work that the NDCS do.
Any donation, small or large, will go a long, long way to giving deaf children and their families the help and support they need as they grow up.
Thank you all so much. Should I survive, and you’re around at the end of the race, maybe we can meet up for one of those Saintly beers!
Dave xx
