Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My wife has had Crohns since she was 19, it's an unpleasant disease which she learned to live with over the years. then in 2003 the disease caused her intestines to rupture, she spent weeks in intensive care followed by months in hospital. Since then her intestines have been disconnected and she makes do with a colostomy bag.
She is an amazing woman and still manages to carry on a normal life as far as anyone who knows her can see, the truth behind the scenes is quite different as dealing with the illness and the side effects makes what most of us consider normal a difficult and at times traumatic process.
To date the cause of Crohns is unknown and there is no cure. The NACC charity I am supporting funds research into both the causes and possible cures for the disease.
I'm riding to Timbuktu for fun, but I hope you will sponsor me on my ride to help the NACC find a cure for this disease. I'm setting off on November 6th riding a BMW R1200GS Adventure, taking a ferry from Barcelona to Tangiers then riding through Morocco, Western Sahara, Mauritania and finally Mali. Along the way i will visit the Todra Gorge, Merzouga, Zagora, the Draa Valley, Ouazarzate, Marrakesch, Agadir, Nouachott, Timbuktu and Djenne before finishing the trip in Bamako. The trip will be about 7000 km and take 3 weeks. The day after i return i will be working at the NEC motorcycle show (from Dec 1st - 5th) so if you want to catch up with me to see how it went come and see me on the BMW stand.
For more information about Crohns see the NACC website http://www.nacc.org.uk/content/ibd/crohnsBG.asp.
For more information on my trip I hope to have a website set up soon including a blog which i will update daily if possible on the journey and maybe even satellite tracking so you can see where i am (you will probably have a better idea than me!!).
