Sixteen of us are swimming 10 kilometres down the beautiful River Dart in Devon from Totnes to Dittisham on September 5th 2015 to raise money for the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at the Bristol Children's Hospital in memory of our darling Maisie (who loved wild swimming!). The team at the Unit cared for Maisie, who was 12 years old, after she suffered a ruptured aneurysm in her brain while on holiday in Cornwall in late 2013. It is an incredible place, tirelessly staffed by caring, kind, professional and highly-skilled doctors and nurses. We are raising money for a new continuous brain wave monitor (which costs in the region of £20,000 - hence our swim target) which helps to treat infants and children on the Intensive Care unit with a wide range of problems. It is also used on critically ill children following head injuries, meningitis and other conditions affecting the brain. Maisie loved our holidays in Devon and swam across the Dart when we were last there together. She would be incredibly proud that we are doing this in her memory - in fact, she'll be powering us all along.
