DART Appeal Radiotherapy Charity Skydive

DART Appeal Radiotherapy Charity Skydive · 23 June 2018
A team from Derby Radiotherapy are doing a Tandem Skydive on June 23rd to raise money for the Derby Adaptive Radiotherapy (DART) Appeal. We would all be tremendously grateful for any donations towards this wonderful cause!
Cancer can touch us all in some way throughout our lives, whether directly or through a family member or friend. About 40% of people with cancer have radiotherapy as part of their treatment. Radiotherapy destroys the cancer cells in the treated area by damaging their DNA and although normal cells are also affected by radiation, they are better at repairing themselves.
In January 2016 the trust instigated a rolling Radiotherapy equipment replacement programme for its Linear Accelerators; the machines that target and treat the cancer. We have been lucky enough to receive funding to replace 3 out of 4 of our machines but now are in desperate need to raise money for the fourth.
The DART appeal will allow us to purchase a fourth machine to ensure that our waiting lists are shorter, appointments are less likely to be cancelled, and patients can fit treatment in around their daily lives. In addition these new machines have the capability to provide the most up to date treatment techniques and deliver the best chance of a successful outcome for our patients.
Through a variety of fundraising activities we hope to raise a mammoth amount – please support us by donating generously now – any amount will make a difference!
