Hi Everyone
Well we did it.
The total time was 23 Hrs and 44 Mins. 12 Hours walking & 11 hours 44 Minutes travelling.
We were off at 15:00 ON Thursday the 30th to a great start on Ben Nevis up and down in 3Hrs and 55Mins, it was then down to Scafell Pike for a 01:15 start. The mist closed in on us 2/3 of the way up and we were forced to stop and wait until day break at 04:40 before we could push for the summit. The pressure was now on so it was an uncomfortable jog down most of Scafell for a 06:15 finish. It was a quick 10 minute turn around and we were on our way to Wales to tackle Mount Snowdon. Our driver Lee was tremendous and had us flying down the M6 heading for the M56 and making up a little of the time we had lost on Scafell. But once again circumstance conspired against us as we hit a total car park on the M56 just before the Preston Brook junction. This was the only time i started to doubt our chance of completing the challenge.
Some quick thinking by our support vehicle driver "Ken" had us heading off at the junction and finding ourselves rejoining the motorway one junction further up. It seems the motorway was closed for an hour or more so this detour just about saved the day.
So, good traffic all the way to Llanberis saw us at Pen-y-Pass car park at the bottom of Mount Snowdon,s "Pyg Track at 11:42 which gave us 3Hrs and 18Mins to complete the challenge.
A blistering pace fuelled by copious amounts of Mars bars and bananas found us at the stile at the bottom of "Crib Goch" in 18 minutes and so the challenge was very much on. Limbs were aching but the resolve of the whole group was undented and the banter was furious as it had been throughout the time we had spent together.
We reached the top of the Pyg Track and then it was a final blast up past the railway line and visitor centre for a quick photo stop at the summit. One final descent and we knew our goal was in sight.
The knees burned and muscles ached but after 1Hr and 10 Mins we were back at Pen-Y- Pass car park .
We all jogged in together and the sense of relief was felt by everyone. The time was 14:44 Result!
I have to say a massive thank you to everybody involved in the the trip. The organisation was fantastic and the co-operation and camaraderie between the team was superb.
A big THANK YOU to everyone that donated on and offline, the total i hope will be in the region of £700 which could not have been acheived without the generosity of all those that supported me.
As some of you already know, myself and nine other Maniacs are attempting to climb the three highest peaks in the UK within 24 hours.
This attempt known as the "Three Peaks Challenge" will involve walking up and down Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Mount Snowdon.
In total we will walk 27.5 miles and ascend nearly 10,000 feet.
The hike will take approximately 14 hours and the driving between the venues will take around 10 hours.
The round trip will be in the region of 900 miles.
It is going to be quite a challenge both physically and mentally.
I felt that this would be a,great opportunity to raise some money for a very worthy cause.
I wanted to get involved with a charity that helped children and young people with the challenges that they face in todays society.
That is why i have chosen Action for Children.
So that's about it, i am prepared to put up with the sore feet and limbs, lack of sleep, possible bad weather and the legendary Mosquitos at Ben Nevis and all i ask is that you donate as much or as little as you can manage.
P.S. I promise to take pictures at the summit of each peak.
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
