Story

As someone living with sight loss, I am so grateful for all the support I have received and continue to receive from the Guide Dogs team who are all fantastic. Thank you!

Life with my first Guide Dog Tilly has been so rewarding over the last 22 months. Tilly has given me back my own independence again. I now don't rely on others as much which feels great and I am growing in confidence. I am so proud to have Tilly by my side keeping me safe when out and about in the community be it at the Leisure Centre, Shops or just meeting up with friends and family.

This year I turned 50 and thought I should do something special to celebrate this milestone in my life so on Sunday 11th September I will be running The Great North Run accompanied by my twin brother Wayne Swales. I am very honoured that Wayne will be my guide runner for this event.

Not Stopping There! I also thought 🤔 why not add a couple more training challenges on the way so I did, starting with:

Ride London-Essex - 100 mile bike ride on a 🚴‍♀️🚴‍♀️Tandem with my pilot Michael Kitching on Sunday 29th May 2022

Open Water Swim - 2 miles 🏊‍♂️🏊‍♀️ (Saturday 20th August).

These are two other sporting activities that I've always enjoyed so why not, "anything is achievable with the right support of friends and family in place"

Thank you all for your support, I really appreciate it.

The ability to get around is vital in order to live a full life yet thousands of people with sight loss never leave home alone. We empower visually impaired people to do that and rely on the support of the public to fund the guide dog service.
