Story
On the 27th September there is an Abseil down Marlborough House, AXA's office in Bristol. This isn't something that I am looking forward to given my fear of heights. However, I’m going to try and combat the fear I have of throwing myself off the 6th floor only because it is for a good cause and that the hospital is only 200 yards away!
I’m doing this for Above and Beyond, the charity that raises money for Bristol’s hospitals. A&B are raising money to help build a dedicated Bone Marrow Transplant unit for adults.
You may or may not know that my late wife Jane had a Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) back in 2007 as part of her treatment for Leukaemia. Her two years of intensive treatment was undertaken in both the Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre and in the Bristol Children’s Hospital where adult BMT’s are currently performed. Whilst the care was excellent, the fact that it is managed in part in the Children’s hospital is not ideal in terms of nursing logistics but also the fact that mixing very ill adults and very ill children is a challenge for both patients and families. The creation of a dedicated adult unit will significantly improve the experience for patients, families and the medical staff.
If you are able I'd be really grateful if you could help me help this cause by sponsoring my abseil.
